Notes about Richeza of DENMARK

Richiza Eriksdatter (- 1308) was the daughter of Erik Glipping and Agnes of Brandenburg . She was early intended as a bride for Prince Nicolaus of Werle , as a child she was sent over to Mecklenburg for her to be educated in the monastery Doberan. She was closely related through his grandmother, Queen Margrethe , and in 1291 acquired the pope's dispensation for the marriage. This probably occurred shortly after, but of Richizas later life almost nothing is known.

From her marriage she had a son, Johan , and a daughter, Sophie . Richizas brother (and Sophie's uncle) Erik Menved in 1310 betrothed the young princess to the Swedish hertug Erik Magnussen, but this broke up shortly after and instead he married Norwegian princess Ingeborg. Sophie was sent home again, and Erik had to declare that the break did not come from any of her dishonesty because, just as he had to pay a sizable sum of money. Shortly after she married Count Gerhard third of Holstein.
