Another Thornton researcher has Mary Martha Harmer as the daughter of John Harmer c1804-1887 and Jane Page c1800-1860, according to census entries this is incorrect and she is actually the daughter of William Harmer and Lucy Upton.

1841 aged 4, living at No 29 Lodging House, Seaside, Eastbourne, Sussex with parents, William and Lucy Harmer, and four siblings. Entered as 'Martha' in census.

1851 aged 14, living at 25 Surrey Place, St Mary Newington, Walworth (Lambeth) with parents, William and Lucy Harmer, and six siblings.

1861 aged 24, living at Springworth House, Clapham Common in the employment of John Bowman 48, East India Merchant, born London. Birthplace entered as Brighton. Also working here is her sister Ellen aged 27.
