27 Feb 1535 Will probated. Will gives to wife Joane for life, estates in Helmingham, Otley, Winston and Pethaw with reversion at her death to son JOHN except tenements in Helmingham, called Julkins and Stoldyngs, to son THOMAS, and mentions youngest daughter ELIZABETH.

His wife Joan died in 1540 and in her will, which is dated July 30, 1540, and probated December 12, 1540, she mentions daughter Elizabeth Bacon and Ann Dow.

His will was proved at Helmingham Feb. 28, 1535, and is here given.

WILL OF THOMAS BAKON OF HELMINGHAM
"In the name of god Amen I Thomas Bakon of Helmynghm in th dioc of Norwich hole of minde & goode off remembraunce being the last daye off Julye in the yere of our lord god th MCCCCC XXX IIIIth do ordeyne & make this my prsent testament & Last will in the manr & fourme folowing. Rvokyng & dyssannullying all other testaments & wills by me afore this tyme made. ffirst I comend & bequeth my soule to allmyghtie god to our Lady saynt Marye & to all the sayntts in Hevyn & my body to be buryede in the church yarde of the said Helmynghm. To the which high Aulter of the saide church of Helmynghm for my tythes & offeryngs forgotten & negligentlye payed I bequeth iiis iiiid. And to the high Aulter of the prsh church of Ashbakkyng xiid. And to the high Aulter of the prsh church of Otleye other xiid.
Itm I will that myn executors of John my son shall dystrybute & geve to all people att my buriall ther beyng present praying for my soule & for all Crystian souls pennye dole, mette & drynke.
Itm I will that Johan my wyff shall have all thos my lands & tentts aswell Arabyll as pasture & medows wt all th apprtenances both free & copye sytting & lyeng in Helmngham, Otley, Wynston & Pethawe. To have & to hold all the prmisses aforesaide to the said Johan my wyff & to her assynes all the terme of hyr lyff naturall & to Myclmas after hyr decease except all those my land & tentts that shall remayne to the said John my son as here aftr shal be declared. And after the decease of the said Johan my wyff & the ffest of Mychallmasse aftr that Then I will that my tents callyed Julkyngs & Stoldyngs wt th apprtenances in Helmynghm shall remayn to Thomas Bakon my son. To have & to hold the said Tentts callyed Julkyns & Stoldyngs to the said Thomas my son hys heyres & assyneis in fee Symplee yeldyng & payeng to myn executors or ther executors vl in iii yeres next after the decease of Johan my wyff & Michelmasse next after that. Then I will that Jolyspighttyll & Mosys with th apprtenances in Helmynghm aforesaid shall remayn to Elizabeth my yongest daughter To have & to hold the said Jolyspigtell & Mosys to the saide Elizabeth hyr heyres & assignes in fee Symplee. And after the decease of the said Johan my wyff I will that all thos my Lands and tentts aswell arabill as pasturys & medowys both free & copye wth all thapprtenances in Helmynghm aforesaide called Ryste & all other thos my lands & Tentts aswell arabill as pasturys & meadows both free & copye wt all thapprtenances syttyng & lyeing in Wynston & Pethawe shall remayne to the said John my son. To have & to hold all the abovesaid Tenement called Ryste in the said Helmynghm And all of the prmises in Wynston & Pethawe to the said John my son hys heyres & assynes in fee Symplee. And after the decease of the said Johan my wyff I will that all my pecys of lands inclosed called Goldsmyth otherwysse Tolys Conteyning by estymation iii acres lying in Otley shall Remayne to the said John my son. To have & to hold the said pcs of land to the said John my son his heyres & assyneis for and on this condycon followyng that ys to saye that he shall kepe or do to be kepte myr Obyte Mays in the yere the daye of my deptying out of this present worlde or any other day as he shall thynke most convenyent for ytt to be kepte wtin the said cherch of Helmynghm dyrge & Masse the space of XII years after my decease ther dysposying for my soule & all Crystyn soules to the people ther beyng prsent prayeng for my soule & all crystyn souls vis iiid sterling. Providyng allways in this my said testament & Last will aftr the decease of the said Johan my wyff That yf the said Thomas my son do make any tytle or claim to any of the said lands and tentts wyllyd by me to eyther of chyldren John my son or Elizabeth my daughter in brekyng of this my last will. That then my last wiii [sic]is that all such lands & tentts both free & copye wylled by me unto the said Thomas my son shalbe solde by myn said executors or ther executors & the payments comyng shalbe dysposyd by my said executors or ther exectyors in dedys of charytie & marcye as they shall thynke best to please god & pfght to myn soule & all Crystyn soules. and accordyng to this my prsent
Testament & last will I require that all my Cofeeffeys That be infeoffyd in all myn abovesaid Lands & Tentts both free & Copye to myn use to delyvre a Lawfull estate & surrender when so ever they shalbe Requyred by myn said executors or ther executors. The Residue of all my goods Cornys, Cattells, stuff of Householde, horses, Cartts, ploughs & all other moveabylle goods I give & bequeth to the said Johan my wyff duryng hyr lyff naturall. And after hyr decease all the aforesaid moveabylls I geve and bequeth ffrelye to the said John my son. And of this my said prsent Testament & last will ordeyne & make myn executors the said Johan my wyff & Thomas Connynghm of Wynston. And to the said Thomas for hys dylygent Labor I geve & bequeth vis viiid,

These wytenes prsent at thys testament & last will Redyng, Robt Downys & Robt Dowe & John Martyn & Jaffrye Dowe, clerk Willm Woode wt many oths.
