Notes about John STEVENS

John and his brother Richard were left the entire estate of his grandfather John Cogger on his death in 1801, apart from a couple of small legacies. They were the joint owners of at least 3 farms in the Sundridge-Sevenoaks area, including Norman Street Farm, Ide Hill and Cross Keys. He was joint residuary legatee and co-executor with his brother, Richard, on his grandfather's will.

1841 aged 70, farmer, at Norman Street, with his wife Elizabeth 60, children Jesse 35, Frederick 30 and William 25, all agricultural labourers, and Harriott 20. Also living here were David Barton 9 and Mary Barton 7, grandchildren. These were in the area south of the road from Mackarel's Plain to Brasted Chart. Also in 1841 there was a George Stevens 40, carrier, with wife Sophia 30, children Esther 5, James 2 and Elizabeth 6 months, living in Sundridge village, north of the main road at what looks like Martins Row

(HO107/485/9 f.6v). A John Stevens died in 1845/June/Sevenoaks/5/297
