Notes about Richard SCROPE

Richard Le Scrope was the son and heir of Sir Henry Le Scrope at the age of 17. He was born about 1327-28 in Bolton, Yorkshire, England.

Richard Le Scrope, Knight, M.P. for the county of York in 1364. He was summoned to parliament as a baron on the 8th January, 1371. He was twice High Chancellor of England, and obtained the royal license to castellate his manor house of Bolton, which he "made from the ground", in 1379. He also bought the Kingdom of The Isle of Man for his son William. Had went to trial against Sir Robert Grosvenor over the Right to Bear the Arms Azure a Bend d'Or.

He had married Blanche de la Pole (born about 1327 in Ravenscar, Yorkshire, England; died 1378), daughter of Sir William de la Pole and sister of Michael de la Pole, earl of Suffolk, in about 1344 in Wensleydale, Yorkshire. They had four sons:

William Le Scrope - born circa 1350, became Earl of Wiltshire
Roger Le Scrope - succeeded his father as 2nd Baron Scrope of Bolton
Stephen Le Scrope
Richard le Scrope - fourth son, died young without issue.
Richard Le Scrope died in 30th May, 1403.
