Notes about Edward DUNCOMBE

Succeeded to Battlesden on the death of his father. With his wife Elizabeth he had nine children.

In his will dated 1st Jan 1637/8 Edward directed that he should be buried in the Chancel of Battlesden Church near his wife. He gave 20 shillings to the poor of Battlesden, 20 shillings to the poor of Pottsgrove and 40 shillings to the poor of Leighton Beaudesert.

His second wife Anne he gave a "dwelling house of the value of £40 p.a. or pay down to her a sum of £300", or if she gave up those securities mentioned then she was permitted to retain two rings and a diamond hatband, if not they were to be given up to his Executors.

He gave his son in law WILLIAM DUNCOMBE of Litlington Park and WILLIAM BOLSWORTH of Leighton, Gent all his lands etc in Yeldon, Turvey and Wroxhill, Beds and Roxton, Colleston, Chalfont, Bucks and Puttenham, Herts "and all heriots, chattels of felons and fugitive felons of themselves in as free and ample a manner as the same were conveyed to him by JOHN ELDRED & THOMAS WHITMORE by Indenture of 1 May 1611".

His lease of Woburn, his jewels and other chattels he bequeathed to WILLIAM DUNCOMBE and WILLIAM BOLSWORTH, his executors. The William Duncombe mentioned in his will was, as well as being his son in law, his first cousin, being the son of his uncle JOHN DUNCOMBE of Litlington Park, Esquire of the Body to King James.
