Notes about Francis PECK

The Peck family moved from Barton to Hexton about 1823, about four miles away.

1841 aged 25, living in Hexton with parents, William and Ann Peck, and siblings Sarah, Samuel, George, Alfred, Eliza and Albert.

1851 aged 35, living at Dunstable Street, Ampthill with his second wife Mary Ann, and his sister in law, Anne Fitzgerald.

Francis was a bricklayer but later became a shopkeeper or grocer when he acquired a small shop. His second wife Mary Ann died in 1859 of TB, and his sister in law, Anne, remained with him as housekeeper.

1861 widower, aged 46, living at Dunstable Street, Ampthill, Bedfordshire with his sister in law employed as his housekeeper, Ann Fitzgerald 31, a dressmaker from Colney, Hertfordshire.

1871 aged 56, living at Dunstable Street, Ampthill with his third wife Sarah 46, and children Lila 8 and Hadassah 3.

1881 aged 66, living at Dunstable Street, Ampthill with his third wife Sarah 56 and son Frank 9.

In his will, Francis left everything to his third wife, Sarah, a total of £187.5.0d. Sarah had a headstone made for him in Ampthill Churchyard inscribed: ' In loving remembrance of Francis Peck who died November 4th 1890 aged 76 years "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord" Also four children who died in their infancy'
