His soon-to-be wife, Charlotte Rye, was living next door. 1861 aged 38, living at Leigh with his wife Charlotte 37 and daughters Jane 10 and Mercy 8, also two lodgers, John Thorpe 21 born Tonbridge & George Staples 53 born Sundridge. 1871 aged 48, living at Style Place, Hadlow with his wife Charlotte 47, and daughter Jane M 20.
