Notes about Wycher Abraham van Ootmarsum (de Groot)

(Research):The census of 1748 lists a Wicher as under 10 years of age but not one of about 16 years of age. Is it possible that he was no longer living at home at the time the census was taken?

At the birth of his first child "Jan" the parentage is recorded as "Wijcher Abrahams Broer, a mennonite originating from Ootmarsum and Aaltje Jans Mulder, but at the baptism of their second child "Geesje" the parentage is recorded as Wicher Abrahams van Ootmarsum and Aaltje Jans Mulder. (Giethoorn baptisms)

The following from records of P Hakze (rootsweb.com) According to the Successieregisters 1806-1811 of Friesland, region 5, DTB 592, Wieger Abrahams, , died at the age of 79 years at St. Johannesga, leaving behind six children. 79 years is very wrong, because in 1748 Wycher was younger than ten years; 69 years is much more plausible. Six days later Wycher's son Gerrit Wychers dies too, also in St. Johannesga. Was there a coherence, such as a cholera epidemic, notorious in the wet peatdigging areas?! In October 1758 Wycher Abrahams Broer or van Ootmarsum is a mennonite when his first child, Jan Wychers Broer was baptized in the Dutch Reformed Church (DRC) of Giethoorn. Very probably Wycher's wife Aaltje Jans Mulder was Dutch Reformed, otherwise this can't be explained. Wycher changes his his faith, because on 8 Apr 1762 he becomes member by confession of the DRC of Giethoorn. On 12 Feb 1782 Wicher Abrams van Ootmarsum and his wife Aaltje Jans Mulder were transferred as member of the DRC of Giethoorn to the DRC of Rotsterhaule c.a., a peatdiggers hamlet in the southwestern Frisian municipality Schoterland. In 1785 they move from St. Johannesga, house nr. 29, (back) to Rotsterhaule nr. 11, later on nr. 10. In 1790 they move to St. Johannesga nr. 28, in 1795 from Rotsterhaule nr. 2 to Rohel nr. 8, in 1800 from Rohel nr. 8 to St. Johannesga nr.16. Source: dr. Jochem Kroes' book "De Gietersen in Friesland". There is no doubt that Wycher was a peatdigger and peatmaker during his whole life.

Also named Wieger Abrams. He is the second son and named for his maternal grandfather Wycher (Broer). Broer is the surname of his mother Mergjen Wychers Broer. In Friesland, from 1782 on, Wieger Abrahams doesn't use any surname (anymore).
