Barbara never married. She received her education at Corbett, Oregon. Spent her childhood years on a farm above Troutdale, Oregon, and then devoted the rest of her life to Christ by first working as a housekeeper for the Benedictan Sisters at the Holy Child of Jesus Academy and Convent on Sandy Blvd. in Portland, Oregon. She worked there with the nuns until the Academy closed around 1975. Later she worked as a companion to elderly ladies and made any number of extensive trips East and elsewhere in the US and Canada. In 1990, Barbara suffered a stroke leaving her vocal chords paralyzed. Though able to get around, she could not speak.
