Herman Nieuwenhuizen was jarenlang een gewaardeerd koster van de Begijnhofkapel. Naast dit werk hield hij zich veel bezig met het restaureren van diverse kunstschatten van de kapel.
Met name het oude doopvont heeft hij in 1999 van de sloop gered. (De foto is van voor de restauratie)
