Notes by Betty J. Burzlaff:
"Emma weighed only one pound when she was born on January 23, 1886 near Calamus, Clinton County, Iowa. She was so tiny...she actually slept in a cigar box, which was kept on the warming oven of the cook stove. Very amazing that she lived!
Emma attended Calamus Schools, was a member of Wesley Methodist Church of Calamus, and lived most of her life in Calamus. Emma never married and made her home with her parents. She did washing and ironing for local folks to earn a living. She worked very hard all her life and lived to be 83 years old."
