Services were held Monday, Apr. 27 at the Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian for Wilmer Buse who died on Thursday, Apr. 23, 2009 at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center due to cancer. He was 91 years old.
Wilmer, a retired dairy and grain farmer, was born on a farm four miles southwest of Lennox, SD on Feb. 20, 1918, the son of Wichert and Jennie (Kuper) Buse. He graduated from Middleton #23 rural school and helped on the family farm. Both of his parents passed away when he was a very young man. Wilmer, his young brother and sister continued to live and work on the farm. Wilmer was born and lived in the same house nearly 80 years, having farmed over 60 years.
He married Evelyn Poppens on June 8, 1951 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Lennox. Five children were born to this union.
They farmed on their dairy and grain farm southwest of Lennox, retiring from farming in 1981, but continued living on the same place until 1997 when they moved to Lennox.
When a young man, Wilmer joined Turner County First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon for six years. In 1974 he transferred his membership to Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church where he was and active and faithful member. He was a former Middleton #23 school board member, served on the Lennox Farm Gas Coop Board of Directors for 25 years, from 1969 to 1992, being president of the board for 17 years. He helped the Lennox Sundstrom FFA Chapter, receiving the Honorary FFA Chapter Farmer Degree in 1975.
Wilmer and his family loved to travel and go camping. He took his family to the West Coast, East Coast and into Canada. When the children grew up he and his wife continued traveling in the United States and took tours in Europe, Jamaica, Hawaii and Alaska. He was a member of the Tri-State RV'ers Camping Club.
Preceding him in death were his mother on September 29, 1937, his father on July 21, 1940, his sister, Mable on April 21,1996, his brother, Floyd Buse on April 17, 2008 and his sister-in-law: Delma Buse on Aug. 2, 1999.
Grateful for having shared his life are Evelyn, his wife and best friend of 57 years; five children and their spouses: Gloria and Mark St.Clair of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Galyn and Rachel Buse of Tea, Glenn and Cheryl Buse of rural Lennox, Gary and DeeAnna Buse of rural Lennox and Jeffrey and Jane Buse of rural Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren: Kayla St.Clair, Rachel Hoefert, Ashley, Travis, Ryan, David, Chad, Erin and Emily Buse; plus nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
