Kind(er):
Daniel Fowler I (1714 - 1778) Married Mary Rollins (born ca.1725) in about 1745. Mary was
probably a sister (perhaps even a daughter of Edward Rollins of Bladen Co. NC.) A1768 land sale
to Robert Rollins confirms the close relation of the families. Daniels birth date is from M . C. Bagley,
and a death date of 1793 has also been penned into the Library of Congress of her Chart but it is
much more probable that Daniel died shortly before 1779. It may have been his wife who died in
1793, one of the most compelling reasons for an earlier death date is that he is not the lone Daniel
who appears in the census of 1790 and that one underage son (Francis) remained who was living
with his brother Richard, although the possibility that the father was living undetectable with a
married daughter is not excluded. There are other reasons too as we shall see. Daniel`s male children
were John (b.1747),
William (b.ca. 1752), Daniel II (b.ca. 1755), Richard (b.ca. 1758),
Peter (b.ca. 1762), and Francis (b.ca. 1770). There are slight indications of a seventh son (b.ca.
1774), but certainly they had some female children one of whom was probably the Elizabeth who
married Edmund Spivey according to Revolutionary War pension #R10002.
Daniel was probably a brother of John of Bladen (see chapter 3 ) and of D`Arcy, the Sampson Co.
loyalist who was interned at Halifax in 1775. This rare name, un repeated in subsequent generations
possibly for patriotic reasons, and it`s bearer`s Tory sympathies strongly suggest a recent English
origin for these Fowlers, Consistent with the Nansemond story of James Fowler.
Daniel had extensive property holdings in Duplin Co. in the part just west of the line that latter
became Sampson Co. Up until 1774, he bought and sold at least six plats in the Cane Creek - Six
Runs area. He also owned land on an absentee basis north of Whiteville in Brunswick Co. (later
Columbus Co.) which he (or his son Daniel) disposed of as late as 1784.
The above by Richard Gildart Fowler in his book, (A History Of The Fowler Family Family OF
Southern North Carolina.) ( WSH)
