Birthplace: Bunderhammrich, District of Leer, Niedersachsen, Germany. Bunderhammrich is a village in East Frisia, belonging to the municipality of Bunder in Rheiderland. Maps show that this is near the border with the Netherlands and as borders shifted may have been part of the Netherlands at times. Church records give year as 1853, gravestone says 1854.

Harm F. Bruns was born 18 June 1853 at Bunderhammrich / Weener / Ostfriesland. He immigrated in 1882 to Melbourne, IA. In 1886, he moved to South Dakota and married Geeske Kuper. He died 5 May 1905 of lung disease. Relatives: wife, 6 children. A brother, Jan F Bruns died 3 months ago. Abel Kloppenburg & wife Cathrina née Bruns of Melbourne, IA, at the same time as the only surviving sister of the deceased and children.
