George G. Wolbert, Sr. son of Geert (George) Wolbert/Wolberd and Aleida (Reinink) Wolbert was born November 15, 1854 in Allegan County, Michigan.
In May 1869, George came with his parents to Kansas where they first located on the Salina River in Ottawa County, 17 miles northwest of Salina, Kansas. On January 14, 1870, his father Geert (George) Wolbert filed the first homestead claim in Osborne County on Oak Creak six miles north-west of Cawker City in the extreme northeast corner of the County. George, his mother Aleida, brother John and sister Gesina joined their father on the homestead in December 1870. His father Geert/George was a member of the Rotterdam Dutch Colony that settled along Oak Creek in the early 1870s in an area that is now part of Mitchell, Osborne, Jewell, and Smith Counties.* The Rotterdam Dutch Colony was later renamed the town of Dispatch.
In December 1872, George G. Wolbert was united in marriage with Renske "Sarah" Kuiken whose parents also settled near Cawker City, Kansas. George and Renske had four children:

George's beloved first wife Renske "Sarah" died in May 1879 leaving him with three young children. He then married Miss Johanna Otte on May 30, 1883 daughter of John G. Otte and Berdina/Bendenia (Slooth) Otte. To this second union were born 10 children:

In 1874, George G. Wolbert became a member of the Reformed Church and was a very active member while he lived in the country and he retained his membership in this church during the remainder of his life. He lived on a farm north of Cawker City until 1896, when with his family he moved into town, residing there until his death. He died at his home on May 16, 1923.
