Beatrice Marie Hawver Wisner Obituary
Beatrice Marie Hawver Wisner was born January 6, 1901 to Benjamin and Magdalena Hawver in Floriston, California. Her younger years were spent in Rich Gulch and San Andreas.
At age 16 her mother died and she became mother to her younger sister and brother until her marriage to Raymond C Wisner on June 11, 1921 in Lodi, California
They had three children: Mildred and Lawrence were born in Chowchilla, and Ruth was born in Lindsay, California. Around this time Bea thought the children should be taken to church. Since Ray wasnt interested, she decided to go by herself and take the children. It wasnt long before Ray was attending also.
In 1930, Rays health began to fail. He was told he had better get out of the butcher business and into the open air. So they leased a small ranch in West Point, California.
They attended the community church where Joe Kirk (John Kunkles brother-in-law) was pastor. This is where they heard the Story of Salvation and became followers of Christ.
In February 1931, Ray felt the call to attend Bible school and study for the ministry. Bea was willing. After arriving in Huntington Park to attend the Training School for Christian Workers (now Azusa Pacific University), she was asked if she would like to attend also. This was during the depression and they had three children to support. They trusted God to supply their needs and God met each need.
Between their Junior and Senior year at Bible School, a Mt. Shasta business man (D.A. Sheldon) advertised in the Christian Witness for a pastor to shepherd the small congregation of the Friendship Mission.
Ray and Bea came to Mt. Shasta for the summer of 1934. Before they left to go back and finish school the sub-floor of the church on the corner of Ida A Streets was laid.
Upon graduation in the spring of 1935, The Wisners moved to Rail Road Flat to start a Sunday School and church in the school house. They worked side by side in the ministry.
Besides building a parsonage in Rail Road Flat, they served at the Holiness Evangelistic Institute. Bea taught in the elementary, high school and Bible departments. She also was an Assistant Girls Matron.
The Lord then moved them to El Monte to Bethel Church (now El Monte EMC) and built a parsonage there before leaving for East Los Angeles where they built a church.
They pastored the Evangel Church in Mt. Shasta from 1948 to 1958 (now EMC) and pastored a Wesleyan Church in Roseburg Oregon for a short time in 1959.
After Ray retired from active ministry, they opened a Christian Book store in their home. Bea did all the bookkeeping besides being sales clerk, placing orders, etc.
Bea lived by herself several years after Ray went to Heaven in June 1977. Then she made her home sharing time with her son, Lawrence and his wife Allene, and with her daughter Millie and her husband Jack.
She is survived by:
Two Brothers:
Gus Hawver of San Andreas and Monroe Bud of El Dorado.
Four Sisters:
Ruth Ludwig, Judy Howard and Eleanor Bobbie Williams of Pioneer, and Reatha Amoral of Jackson.
Three Children:
Millie Hand and Ruth Gilliam of Mt. Shasta, and Lawrence Wisner of Carmichael.
Seven Grandchildren:
Larry Hand, Aaron Bud Hand and Mark Hand
Ray Wisner and Lawrene Nelson
KAren Fauss and Dale Gilliam
