Notities over JOHN COGGER

1631 Rafe Harman, apprentice of Mr John Coggar was buried at Sevenoaks 6th November 1631.

1640 Thomas Fuller, servant of John Cogger was buried at Sevenoaks 25 December 1640.

1649 Whilst searching the Sevenoaks Archives Simon Ranger Hill found an interesting document, a Partition Deed, dated 1 Mar 1649 detailing the uses of a fine levied, and covering the properties: Dibden House, a smith's forge at Bowzell Gate, a cottage in Chevening, a house in Sevenoaks [parish?], a house in Sevenoaks town, a barn in Sevenoaks and 4 shops in Sevenoaks. The parties were:- George Lone senr & Margaret his wife George Lone jnr John Cogger & Margaret " Thomas Moreland & Emmorice " William Moreland & Alice " Edward Symmonds & Audrey " Humphrey Symmonds & Jane " George Wimble (al. Hall) & Katherine " William Wall sen & Dorothy " Richard Croncke sen & Marie " Frances Hilles jun & Alice" on the one part, and Henry Colegate & Henry White on the other. This looks like all the usual suspects - the big cheeses in Sevenoaks. John & Margaret Cogger are presumably John & Margaret Quickenden (which proves that he wasn't the John Cogger buried in 1635), the mention of Cronk and Hills is also of interest.

1652 George Lone "had to sell fifteen acres of land called Little Kippington to John Cogger FOR £195."

1666 John left the main part of his estate to his son John [1644-1707], who left it to his wife Elizabeth and son John in equal shares. It is believed that Elizabeth died in 1726 and John's will of 1744 left the bulk of his estate to his nephew William, son of Thomas of Ightham.
