1669, Mar. 25. Warwick. He was granted land on either side of the Pawtuxet, for the employ of his saw-mill, and he, for this favor from the
purchasers of Warwick, agreed to let them have boards at 4s. 6d. the hundred, and all other sawn work to be equivalent to same. The grant included trees of pine, chestnut or oak, within half a mile on each side of the river, that is floatable, the proprietors reserving the right to cut what they need.
1670, Jan. 18. He was foreman of a jury in the case of Thomas Smith, and Ruth, his wife, "who were both drowned in the river of Pawtuxet, the 16th instant at night."
1671, Oct. 10. Providence. He bought 60 acres more or less with right of commonage, of Abel Potter, and wife Rachel, said land belonging formerly to Rachel's grandfather, Ezekiel Holliman, and being situated near Pawtucket Falls. Here he established his forge, saw-mill, &c.
1676. His forge was destroyed by the Indians, in King Philip's War.
1677. Freeman.
1679, Jul. 1. Taxed 12s. 6d., including his saw-mill.
1679-80-91. Deputy.
1680, May, 5. He and two others were empowered by Assembly to purchase a bell "for the public use of this colony, and for giving notice or signifying the several times or sittings of the Assemblys and Courts of Trials, and General Councils." The bell was purchased for £3, 10s of Freelove Arnold (daughter of Governor Benedict Arnold). Earlier the Assembly had been called together by beat of drum.
1680-81-83-83-84-85-36-89-90-91-95-96-98. Assistant.
1683, Nov. 14. He had land laid out.
1687, Sep. 1. He and his sons, Joseph and Nathaniel; were taxed together 12s.
1688, Aug. 6. Ratable estate, 6 acres planting land, 2 acres meadow, 8 acres pasture, 30 acres wild pasture, rights in land, 4 oxen, 7 cows, 2 steers, heifer, yearling, 2 mares, colt, swine, sheep, saw-mill.
1690, Jan. 30. He and five others and the Deputy Governor, wrote a letter to William and Mary, congratulating them on their accession to the throne, and informing them that since the deposition of Sir Edmund Andros, the former government under the charter had been reassumed. They also mentioned the seizure of Andros, in Rhode Island, on his flight from Massachusetts,
and his return to that colony, on the demand of Massachusetts.
1695, Jul. 2. He was chosen by the Assembly, to run the eastern line of the colony.
1713, Jun. 16. Taxed 12s. 6d.
1708, Oct. 21. Will —proved 1717, Feb. 11. Exx. wife Esther (but she declining by reason of age and inability, her son Nathaniel acted at her request, and by appointment of the court). He confirmed deeds already made to sons Joseph, Nathaniel, Ebenezer and William. To sons Nathaniel, Ebenezer and William, other land, and if any further division was made by
proprietors of Providence, then the four sons were to share equally. To sons Ebenezer and William, equally, the coal house and his half the forge, at death of himself and wife. To loving wife Esther, all the rest of movable estate,
cattle and chattels, for life, and what remains at her death she to dispose of to children or grandchildren, as she sees fit.
Inventory, £36, 19s. 8c?., viz: wearing apparel, 6 pewter platters, 3 plates, 3 basins, 5 porringers, &c, brass and ironware, old books, money due for cow sold £4, 10s., another cow unsold £4, 10s., warming pan, smoothing iron, old bible, stillyards, &c.
The family account gives Samuel Miller, as the husband of Joseph Jenckes' daughter Esther. That she married Samuel Millard or Miller (both forms are used) seems certain, but the Rehoboth records are rather confusing in this matter.
The record says: Esther Bowen, m. 1682, Jul. 20, Samuel Millard, and had children Esther, b. 1683, Apr. 1, John, b. 1684, Dec. 24, Elizabeth, b. 1686, Oct. 5 Alice, b. 1689, Jul. 3, Margaret, b. 1693, Jul. 12, Samuel, b. 1697, Jun. 30. The record is also given that Hannah Jenckes, of Providence, m. 1701, Jun. 1, Samuel Millard, and had Joseph, b. 1701, Jul. 28. Esther, wife of Samuel Millard, d. 1699, Apr. 11, according to the same record. (The will of Samuel Millard, mentions wife Esther.)

Joseph Jenckes, born 1632, and died January 4, 1717, was of Lynn, Mass., also of Providence R. I., where he bought land and aljso received a grant
October 10, 1671. A Freeman 1677, he was a Deputy, 1679 to 1680, and 1691, and Assistant thirteen years in the period from 1680 to 1698. He was chosen by the Assembly to run the eastern line of the Colony, July 2, 1695. He married Esther, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Ballard.
