Philippa of Hainault and Edward III were md. at Valenciennes and she arrived in London 23 Dec 1327, and they settled at Woodstock, which seems to have been the principal abiding place of Philippa while her younwards the celebrated hero, Edward, the Black Prince. Like the renowned Queen Regent of France, mother of St. Louis, Philed her own country, and it was by her advice the English first manufactured cloth. John Kempe, a cloth weaver of Flandert Norwich. She also encouraged coal-mining on her estates in Tynedale. The anecdotes of her piety and generosity which hantly accompanied on his campaigns. Her death on 15 Aug 1369, was a misfortune for the kingdom at large, 8 Jun 1377, succeeded by his grandson, Richard II, son of Edward the Black Prince and Joann of Kent. Philippa was descended from the Counts of Holland, Hainault, Zeeland, Friesland and Hennegau. In 922 A. D., Diedrich was the reigning Count; he was the son of Sigbert and Matilda, dau. of Welf, Count of Bavaria.
