Notes about Margaretha van Egmond Vrouwe van Turksweerd

Het geslacht Torck — oorspronkelijk mogelijk een scheldnaam — was afkomstig uit Westfalen en als eerste vertegenwoordiger in deze streken verscheen hier uit genoemde familie de jonker Godert Torck. Hij was aanvankelijk na zijn vader sedert 1467 bewaarder van het Huis Marck en nog in hetzelfde jaar werd hij Drost van Goch.
Vervolgens trad hij in dienst als stalmeester op het kasteel van Buren en daar ontvoerde hij „tegen haar vrienden wille" Margaretha de dochter van Heer Willem van Usselstein, ridder van het Gulden Vlies en Walburg Gravin van Meurs, die destijds reeds weduwe was van Johan van Merode tot Petersheim en met wie zij in 1473 een eerste huwelijk had aangegaan. Zij nam hem, zo zegt de genealoog „uyt liefde" en de familie bewilligde in 1481 in een huwelijk, maar ook dat huwelijk hield niet lang stand want Margaretha overleed reeds ,,op Sancte Mattheus dach" van het jaar 1496 en zij werd in de kloosterkerk van S. Agatha met 4 kwartieren bijgezet.
