Boering was in die dagen de enige politieman, die Baarn telde. De veiligheid van personen en goederen berustte onder zijn rechteroog, want het linker was bij de een of andere veldslag verloren gegaan. Aan dat heldenfeit zal hij zijn aanstelling tot gemeenteveldwachter vermoedelijk ook wel te danken hebben gehad. In die funktie mocht hij voornamelijk papieren rondbrengen voor burgemeester Pen en diens broer, notaris Pen. Hoe bang waren de Baarnse kinderen echter voor deze Boering! Hun geweten kwelde hen altijd in de gedaante van deze diender in zijn met koperen knopen versierde fluwelen jas. Hij liep door ons dorp met volgepropte zakken en de gele knoeststok onder de arm Noch die stok, noch de jas of sjerp en zelfs niet zijn ene oog waren oorzaak van dat jeugdig ontzag. Zijn faam als kinderverschrikker deelde hij trouwens met dominee Gaukus - Hondius Gaukus, om volledig te zijn - en daar waren de Baarnse moeders schuld aan. „Pas op, ik zal aan Boering zeggen". Of ...Als ik het aan Ds Gaukus zeg, gooit hij zondag in de kerk met de bijbel" Met die dreigementen werd het moederlijk gezag nog ai eens gehandhaafd, in werkelijkheid was Boering de goedhartigste veldwachter van heel de wereld en Ds Gaukus zal de bijbel ook wel op een betere manier gebruikt hebben. In de winter was het trouwens zo'n slecht baantje nog niet, Baarnse politieman te zijn. Dan mocht hij de almanakken rondbrengen en liep de man overal wel een kwartje of iets in die geest op. Dan bracht hij dit jaarboek bij mijnheer De Wilde op Pijnenburg, of bij de heer Staal op Staalwijk. Maar ook bij heer Walraven Fisler op Ewijkshoeve en op den Eult, op Boekhorst, Drakenstein, Drakenburg, Steevlied en hoe al die Baarnse bezittingen toen mochten heten. De opvolger van Boering heette Hoes en wat een kontrast. Inplaats van de sjokkerige Boering een lange, slanke jongeman in een heus - voor die tijd modern: - politiepak. Een en al beweging en goedlachsheid. Geen stilzitter, maar iemand die overal was en idealistisch ten aanzien van zijn beroep. Hij zal in het stijve, bekrompen Baarn van toen heel wat teleurstellingen opgelopen hebben. Wat er niet beter op geworden zal zijn, toen hij er niet van terugschrok de overtreders nog te verbaliseren ook. Hij werd danook prompt dienstklopper genoemd, deze „rakker van de schout!". Jaap Boering werd, toen Hoes hem opvolgde, smid en nog later had hij een winkel in ijzerwaren en huishoudelijke artikelen Zijn vrouw was Truitje, een telg uit het oeroude Baarnse geslacht De Zoete.
