2 mei 1921: Hr.Ms. pantserdekschip Zeeland is uit Nieuwediep naar Hembrug vertrokken om kolen in te nemen en zal 4 mei 1921 vanuit IJmuiden de oefentocht naar de Noorsche wateren aanvaarden. Luitenant ter zee 2e klasse Willem van den Donker is onderdeel van de bemanning. Op 26 juni 1921 is de Zeeland teruggekeerd te Nieuwediep.

Nederlandse patrouilleboten / Noorse walvisjagers

De Enern, Femern en Toern waren Noorse walvisjagers die behoorden bij de walvisjagers- en verwerkingsvloot van het visfabriekschip Solglimt. De walvisjacht was halverwege 1940 tot stilstand gekomen in verband met de aanwezigheid van Duitse raiders in de Atlantische Oceaan. Op 2 juni 1940 vroeg de Oudst Aanwezige Officier (OAZ) te Curaçao, kapitein-ter-zee Van den Donker, toestemming om de drie Noorse schepen naar de Nederlandse Antillen te halen om als patrouilleboten ingezet te worden. De drie Noorse walvisjagers lagen op dat moment in New Orleans en waren door de Noorse regering ter beschikking gesteld van de Royal Navy. Zowel de Noorse regering als de Britse marine gaven toestemming om de drie walvisjagers naar de Nederlandse Antillen te sturen. Op 5 juli 1940 werden de drie Noorse schepen in Nederlandse dienst gesteld met de status van gouvernementsvaartuig. Aanvankelijk voeren zij onder Noorse, maar later onder de Nederlandse vlag. Officieel waren de drie schepen dus nog geen oorlogsschepen. De Noorse bemanning bleef aan boord en werd aangevuld met twee Nederlandse matrozen en een Nederlandse officier. De kruiser Hr. Ms. Sumatra moest voor dit doel drie jonge officieren en zes matrozen afstaan voordat zij op weg ging naar de Oost. In juli 1941 werden de Noorse bemanningsleden gemilitariseerd en werden de drie walvisvaarders Hr. Ms. Enern, Hr. Ms. Femern en Hr. Ms. Toern.
Hr. Ms. Enern, Hr. Ms. Femern en Hr. Ms. Toern kwamen onder bevel te staan van de commandant van de lokale Onderzoekings- en Bewakingsdienst: kapitein-luitenant-ter-zee W. Gauw. De drie schepen werden uitgerust met een Lewis .30 machinegeweer en ingezet als patrouilleboten. In de loop van 1940/1941 kregen de Enern, Femern en Toern de beschikking over een 7,5cm kanon en een tweede Lewis mitrailleur. In 1942 kregen de schepen de beschikking over Active Sound Detection (voorloper van de sonar en afgekort tot ASDIC of Asdic) en vier dieptebommen aan boord om onderzeeboten op te sporen en te bestrijden tijdens escorte taken. Bovendien kregen de Enern, Femern en Toern een Brits mijnenveegtuig voor magnetische mijnen aan boord. De drie Noorse walvisjagers bleven tot het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog in Nederlandse dienst en hebben nuttige diensten verricht. Op 21 augustus 1945 werden ze te St. Johns, Canada, overgedragen aan de Noorse regering. De schepen werden daarna teruggegeven aan de oorspronkelijke eigenaar, Bryde & Dahls Hvalfangerselkap A/S (A/S Thor Dahl) te Sandefjord, en weer ingezet als walvisjagers.
De Enern werd op 30 maart 1950 verkocht aan Pesca Norte de Brazil en was in 1962 verwijderd uit het Lloyd`s Register. De Femern werd op 16 april 1946 verkocht aan Kr. Gjolberg te Oslo en in 1949 omgedoopt in Finnhval I, later in Arne Kalve en Steinevik. Het vaartuig werd het laatst gesignaleerd in Os bij Bergen in Noorwegen als drijvende viskwekerij Nautik. De Toern werd op 18 december 1951 verkocht aan Cheynes Beach Whaling Co. te Albany, West-Australië, en omgedoopt in Cheynes. Verdere lotgevallen van het schip zijn onbekend.
