Zie artikel van Ben Maandag sr.in Het Vrije Volk Weekeditie - dd 04-08-1988 -"Geheimen van de nazi's onthuld..." over publicaties van historicus Dr. Paul Stoop inzake de periode 1933-1935, de informatie die de NRC correspondent H.J. Noordewier zond naar Den Haag was uitvoeriger dan de officieele, hij zond die informatie aan Drion, in zijn functie als directeur van de stichting NBDN (Nationaal Bureau voor Documentatie over Nederland)
Drion speelde deze documenten weer door aan hoge ambtenaren en politici. Er werd uitvoerig ingegaan op de vooroorlogse situatie en de toen al door de nazi's gepleegde wreedheden. Men sloot er de ogen voor en deed net of men het niet wist. Erger nog, Van Kleffens, in die jaren werkzaam op het departement van Buitenlandse Zaken, belde na lezing van een van de 47 rapporten Drion op en maakte bezwaar tegen de inhoud die handelde over de martelingen in Duitse concentratiekampen, waarover Noordewier uitvoerig had geschreven.

"Het huwelijk van Jannetje en Frans Drion was klaarblijkelijk sociaal onacceptabel. Zij kwam uit een socialistisch gezin en de familie Drion hing meer het liberalisme aan. Zij waren goed bevriend en natuurlijk meer dan dat, anders was er geen kind geweest. Het huwelijk is min of meer door Frans doorgezet om de eer zowel van zichzelf als van Jannetje hoog te houden.De dag van het huwelijk gingen zij naar het stadhuis, er werd getrouwd en daarna ging ieder zijn eigen weg. Frans bleef voor de opvoeding van zijn zoon betalen en ook voor zijn latere studie."
