Militieregisters: lengte 1720 millimeters, blauwe ogen, blond haar. Vrijgesteld van dienst als enige zoon. Arend Jan had aanvankelijk 3 banen. Moest water en vuur aanvoeren voor de zaak van z'n moeder, werkte bij een bakker en had een baan bij de riolering in Amsterdam. Hij werkte zich daar op tot opzichter en later tot hoofdzichter. De promotie zou iets te maken hebben gehad met een sleutel die hij maakte voor iemand bij de Hembrug. Hij trouwde op z'n 30ste, Grietje was toen 24. Ze woonden in de Johan Melchior Kemperstraat 134. Daar is Jansje ook geboren op een maandagmiddag om 17.15 uur. Verder hebben ze gewoond aan de Lindegracht en in Tuindorp Nieuwendam, Watergangseweg 60. Zijn pensioenkaart laat zien dat hij 7-11-1915 bij Publieke Werken (Reiniging, Ammoniakfabriek) in dienst kwam, 1-5-1923 Toezichthouder en 1-1-1928 Opzichter. Hij stopte met werken op 31-1-1939. Nadat Grietje was overleden, is hij getrouwd met Neeltje Steenbergen. Dat huwelijk heeft tot aan z'n overlijden 8 jaar geduurd. Als hij bij Janny langskwam moesten ze altijd witte vis met worteltjes eten, want hij had last van z'n maag of gal. Hij mocht geen vet, wel roomboter maar geen margarine (of andersom).

Nadat Arend overleed ging Neeltje in de huishouding bij Christoffel van Ballegooijen in Zaltbommel.
