    Geen moord in Oss, geen brand in Dreumel. dit bericht zou in de jaren '30 nu en dan in de krant gestaan hebben. Bij wijze van hoge uitzondering dan, want er ging zelden een week voorbij of er werd in Oss wel een moord gepleegd of in Dreumel een brand gesticht. Althans, dat wil de volksoverlevering. Moorden in Oss en branden in Dreumel kwamen zo frequent voor, dat er aan een moord- en brandvrije week in die plaatsen grote nieuwswaarde werd gehecht: het moest in de krant.
    Ook de familie Van Valburg kreeg hiermee te maken. Pap (Eef 1923-1996) vertelde hier wel over. Wat ik terug heb kunnen vinden is de brand in juli 1934. Daarbij brandde zowel de woning van zijn opa Evert af al de naastgelegen woning van zijn vader Chris.
    In het boek "Heemkunde-projekt over Dreumel 1925 - 1985, deel 1," vertelt Dhr. Meindert van Toorn op bladzijde 44:
    "Ik zat nog op de mulo en woonde aan de Bovendijk (= Waaldijk richting Wamel JVK). We zaten aan de tafel en door het raampje kon je net op de dijk kijken. Plotseling klonk de roep: "Bránd!! En.....Schiltmans stond in de fik! Ik hoor Dientje Schiltmans nog zeggen: "Och pastoor. we hebben het écht niet aongestókt!" Het werd een flinke brand: drie huizen van de Diakonie brandden af: Schiltmans, Evert van Valburg en Van Oort."
