Kees was ruim 28 jaar oud toen hij in januari 1914 trouwde met Trijntje, twintigjarige dochter van landbouwer Pieter Roozendaal uit Harenkarspel. Toen zijn broer Dirk de brandstofhandel overnam van zijn vader, kreeg Kees het tuinbouwgedeelte.Na drie jaar werd in januari 1917 het eerste kind geboren. Trijntjes zuster Jansje kwam bakeren, maar moeder en kind overleden.
Jansje bleef als huishoudster bij Kees en ze trouwden in april 19182. Getuigen bij het huwelijk waren Steven Hoonhout, zwager, en Dirk, broer van de bruidegom.
In juli werd de oudste dochter Marie geboren en in de daarop volgende jaren nog vier jongens van wie de tweeling Cees en Dirk in 1926. In augustus 1935 brak 's middags door kortsluiting een brand uit die het hele huis in as legde. Ook het huis er naast, de prachtige stolpboerderij van broer Dirk, brandde geheel af. Kees bouwde, evenals zijn broer Dirk, een nieuw huis naast de koolschuur, die was blijven staan
