Schweinsbühl ligt in het Upland in het natuurpark Diemelsee aan de Rijn . De 634,5 m hoge Widdehagen torent vlak bij het dorp uit . Schweinsbühl ligt tussen Dortmund en Kassel ten zuiden van Paderborn , ongeveer in het midden van een driehoek met de hoeken Korbach , Brilon en Marsberg.
Het dorp wordt al in 1075 genoemd toen het eigendom was van het Corvey- klooster .
