Na het overlijden van Henderika Johanna Keizer-van Nijf in 1936 hertrouwt Gerrit Keizer op 14 januari 1937 in Groningen met Alberdina Nijdam, geboren op 19 mei 1887 aan de Hoornschedijk in Haren. Zij is de dochter van Willem Nijdam en Gepke Hoenderken. Alberdina is gertouwd geweest met Jan Freese, van beroep smid en motorreparateur, die op 46 jarige leeftijd op 29 december 1932 overleden is in Groningen. Uit dat huwelijk waren vier kinderen geboren: Ubbo, Willem, Sieze en Karsiena (Kars). Uit het huwelijk van Gerrit Keizer en Alberdina Nijdam worden geen kinderen geboren.
Gerrit Keizer was sigarenmaker en later in dienst bij de PTT als postbesteller en kantoorknecht. Hij heeft samen met een paar anderen Gruno's Postharmonie opgericht. Daarin speelde hij tuba. Zijn zoon Derk speelde ook mee op klarinet.

Op 11 maart 1911 kwam in Groningen een twintigtal postmensen bijeen met als doel de oprichting van een postmuziek- of zangvereniging. Na de stemming (16 tegen 4) bleek dat een muziekkorps de voorkeur genoot. Als naam werd gekozen: Gruno's Postharmonie - Muziekvereniging van Post- en Telegraafbeambten te Groningen. En ach...hoe ging dat in die tijd: de contributie was 5 cent per week en de dirigent ging naar huis met een honorarium van f 25,00 per half jaar! En nu we het toch over de centen hebben, het beginkapitaal werd verkregen door de verkoop van 15.000 sigaren. Inderdaad, een aardig opstekertje!
