    Bericht uit de krant "de Grondwet" van 22 september 1920:
    TRAGISCH ONGEVAL.
    Hedenmorgen kwamen de Gebrs. A. en J. v. O., wonende op Oostelaar onder Wouw, met paard en kar, waarachter een tweede jong paard, naar hier om de dieren te laten beslaan.
    Voor de overweg op Hulsdonk moest men wachten voor een trein in de richting Zeeland.
    Terwijl zij stonden te wachten, kwam de landbouwer J. Thielen, wonende Planken Wambuis, bij hen en knoopte een gesprek aan.
    Op het oogenblik, dat de trein passeerde, werd het jonge paard schichtig, steigerde en drong achteruit waardoor Thielen op den grond viel, en het paard bovenop hem geraakte.
    v. O. sloeg door de schok over het paard en was genoodzaakt het dier los te laten.
    Toen het paard weder overeind sprong, bleek dat Thielen er slecht aan toe was, uit neus, mond en ooren bloedde en bewusteloos was.
    De ongelukkige, die nog eenige teekenen van leven gaf, werd binnengedragen bij M. Francken, waar hij na enkele minuten, zonder tot bewustzijn gekomen te zijn, overleed.
    Dr. Brabers, welke ontboden was, kon slechts den dood constateeren.
    De overledene was ongeveer 65 jaar oud en kwam juist uit de St. Cornelius kerk, waar hij de H. Mis bijgewoond en de H. Communie ontvangen had.
