Jean Baptiste August Kessler (Batavia, 15 december 1853 - Napels, 14 december 1900) was een Nederlands ondernemer en ontdekker van olie.

Kessler richtte in 1890 samen met Henri Deterding en Jhr. Hugo Loudon de Koninklijke Maatschappij tot exploitatie van Petroleumbronnen in Nederlandsch-Indië (K.N.M.E.P., die later Koninklijke Olie werd) op. Met de steun van de Nederlandse overheid werd er in Nederlands-Indië geboord naar olie. Kessler werd bijna direct uitvoerend-directeur en onder zijn leiding werd op Sumatra olie gevonden en vooral na de vondst van een grote oliebron bij Perlak in 1899 groeide de onderneming. In 1901 volgde zijn voormalige assistent Deterding hem op. Die werd op zijn beurt opgevolgd door Kesslers zoon Guus. Andere zonen van hem waren Dolph Kessler, die bekend werd als voetballer en tot het oprichtingscomité van Koninklijke Hoogovens behoorde, en Boelie Kessler die ook bekend werd als voetballer.
