Notes about Hermanus de Groot

Hermanus kwam uit een gezin van 10 kinderen, 5 jongens en 5 meisjes. Zijn beroep landbouwer werd daggelder genoemd omdat hij per dag werd uitbetaald. Later werd dat anders, zo vertelde zijn dochter Geertje aan haar dochter Bets, en werd hij per week betaald en wel fl.300 en een pond boter.

In 1866 is Hermanus ingeschreven bij de Nationale Militie voor "ligting" 1867. Ingelijfd bij het 4e Regiment Infanterie op 6 mei 1867 en na "volbragte dienst" op 5 mei 1872 ontslagen. De militie-diensttijd was weliswaar 5 jaar, echter de periode in werkelijke dienst doorgebracht was doorgaans beperkter.
Op 28 juli 1868 met groot verlof; op 20 juli 1870 terug; op 24 september 1870 met groot verlof.
De omschrijvingen zijn: lang 1 ellen, 5 palmen, 8 duimen en 2 strepen; ovaal aangezigt, laag voorhoofd, blaauwe oogen, gewonen neus, kleine mond, ronde kin, bruin haar, idem wenkbraauwen, geene merkbare teekenen.
