Notes about Lucas Mur

STAMVADER. Zijn oorspronkelijke naam was Luichien Roelofs (Murris). Toen hij naar Amsterdam verhuisde heeft hij de familienaam ingekort tot Mur en zijn voornaam tot Lucas.
Later heeft hij zich gevestigd te Breukelen en is koetsier geworden op het kasteel Nijenrode. Na enige jaren heeft hij geld geleend van zijn baas Johan III Ortt, heer van Neijenrode en Breukelen, de toenmalige eigenaar van kasteel Nijenrode. Hij kocht daarmee een trekschuit en begon een geregelde vaart op de Vecht tussen Amsterdam en Utrecht.
Hij legde hiermee de basis voor de transportbedrijven die later de naam Mur over alle wegen van Europa zouden voeren.
