Notes about Pieter "Piet" Veelders

Piet Veelders groeide op in Leeuwarden met drie zusters en één broer. Hij begon zijn loopbaan als fotograaf waarschijnlijk in Leeuwarden bij het atelier van Jacobus Marinus van der Peijl (1883-1947). In 1924 verhuisde hij naar het Groningse Sappemeer. In 1925 vertrok hij vanuit daar naar Hoorn waar hij werkzaam was in het atelier van Jan Heiko Schepel (1888-1977) en daarna bij het atelier van Marten Meijer (1897-1961) vanaf 1928. Hij trouwde in 1929 met Lena Koldewijn (1907-1989) en trok in bij zijn echtgenote en schoonmoeder Nel Koldewijn-Sonne (1879-1944) boven hun banketbakkerij aan de Gedempte Turfhaven. In 1931 gaf hij zijn beroep als fotograaf op en werd hij banketbakker in de zaak van zijn schoonfamilie. Hij kreeg drie kinderen, Nel (1931-1981), Han en Cobie (1938-1972). Hij overleed op zevenenvijftigjarige leeftijd vrij onverwachts aan hartfalen. Vlak voor zijn overlijden had hij het plan gevat om de banketbakkerij te veranderen in een chocolaterie, waarvoor hij de chocolade zou gaan inkopen, en bij te verdienen op een kantoor in Amsterdam.
