Notes about Leendert Bernardus Kila

Opa Kila herinner ik me als 10-11 jarige als een man op de achtergrond. Hij had veel, heel veel duiven; en daar was ie vrijwel altijd mee in de weer.

Die duiven waren niet in hun bovenhuis aan de Zuiderstraat en ook niet in het bovenhuis aan de Markt waar ze later woonden. De duiven waren in een groot hok op de vokstuin. Die volkstuin lag vlak aan Rijksweg 13; de Nieuwe weg zoals die werd aangeduid. In de zomer op de fiets naar de tuin van Opa, dat was een feest der vrijheid. We mochten daar gewoon alles dat thuis verboden was. Niet dat er nu zo veel te doen was, maar er waren daar veel tuintjes; en daar konden we op visite en dan kregen we snoep, eten en andere lekkere dingen. Dat was feest!
