Notes about Johannes Theodorus "Jan" Bartels

Johannes Theodorus Bartels was degene die het café liet bouwen dat er nu nog staat. Er staat 1906 op de gevel te Bilderdam. Hij had het gebouw (ook een herberg) ervoor gekocht (middels een veiling in dec. 1905) van Christiaan Erkelens die naar het Nieuwveens jaagpad toe ging in 1906, en gesloopt. Johannes was getrouwd met Eva Maria de Kruijf (1886-1963) in 1911 te Uithoorn. Naast herbergier was Johannes Bartels ook rijwielhandelaar. De zaken ging in heb begin aardig goed, maar op een gegeven moment moest hij in 1923 via een gedwongen openbare veiling zijn bezittingen verkopen en werd ook failliet verklaard. Kees Roest, een veehouder aan Bilderdam kocht toen het café. Hij bleef nog tot in 1926 aan Bilderdam wonen en vertrok naar Uithoorn toe (zijn vrouw kwam daar vandaan) en is daar ook geëindigd in 1927. Na zijn vertrek uit het café was het Thijs Roos die het overnam gevolgd door Jo Blom die de laatste caféhouder was aan Bilderdam. Dat is in het kort de geschiedenis van Johannes Bartels de caféhouder aan Bilderdam.
