Richard Benignas Richer, kwam uit de proosdij van Rottenbuch in Beieren waar hij zijn eerste geestelijke werkzaamheden voerde. Hij overlijdt op 5 februari 1122.
Hij was de broer van abt Fredericus abt van Rolduc tussen 1111 en 1122. Hij wordt opgevolgd door Giselbertus. Vanaf het abbatiaat van Richer wordt de kloostergemeenschap gevormd door de Augustijner Koorheren. Hij bekleedt op Rolduc achtereenvolgens de volgende functies:
•1111:Overste
•1112:Proost
•1119:abt
Hij wordt pas in 1119 tot abt gewijd omdat in dat jaar Bisschop Otbert (Obbert) van Luik overlijdt. Die wordt opgevolgd door Bisschop Frederik van Namen in wie Richer wel vertrouwen heeft, zich te laten wijden tot abt.
Vanuit de Proosdij te Rottenbuch brengt Richer het oude kanunnikenideaal van Augustinus mee: samenwonen in gemeenschap, zonder eigen bezit, vaste indeling van de dag met geregeld gebed, en beperkt gebruik van vlees. Door zijn leer en voorbeeld schittert het klooster in godsvrucht zodat de abdij in hoog aanzien staat bij vorsten in die tijd. Richer is edelmoedig en gastvrij voor de armen.
