Notes about Petertje van Enk

Petertje van Enk was born on February 11th of 1863, in Zwartsluis, province of Overijssel. She
died on the 27th of April 1940 in Groningen. She is photographed here with one of her
grand-children (presumably Marinus Dikken, first son of Gerrit Derk Dikken and Hendrika Christina
Zwiersen).
Petertje van Enk was from a bargeman's family in Overijssel. Her father, Gerrit Derks van Enk
(born 1826 in Oldebroek, province of Gelderland), had worked as a farm-hand in his early years,
and took up life as a bargeman from 1862/1863 onwards. In the records for the later years he is
mentioned as a shop-keeper as well. The family lived in Zwartsluis first, and in Hasselt later.
