    In 1671 en 1675 is hij schoenmaker te Oosterwolde, Ooststellingwerf, Friesland. Later wordt hij boer. In 1698 bewoont hij de sate Stegenga te Oosterwolde. Hij is overleden tussen 1698 en 1700. Hij wordt vaak genoemd in de proclamatieboeken. Zo koopt hij in 1663 een aandeel in de windmolen. In 1675 en 1687 is hij voogd over de kinderen van Berend Holtrup, maar hij weigert om curator te zijn over de nalatenschap van zijn zuster Trijntie. Uit de floreenkohieren valt op te maken, dat hij vóór 1700 is overleden. Volgens de schrijver H. P. de Boer in het "Genealogysk Jierboek 1991" is hij de stamvader van de Groningse Holtrops.

    Hendrik Holtrup is gebruiker van stem 15 Steginga te Oosterwolde. Eigenaren zijn de heer Augustinus Lycklama, secretaris van Opsterland, voor ¼, de heer Augustinus Lycklama â Nieholt, grietman van Opsterland, voor ½ en Coop Jans, uit naam van zijn vrouw, voor ¼. (Stemkohier Oosterwolde 1698) Hendrick Holtrup is voor 1/8 eigenaar van stem 43 De Pol te Oosterwolde. De overige eigenaren zijn Tjable Holtrup voor 1/6, Lubbert Hendricks, uit naam van zijn dochter, voor 1/12, Roelof Pyters, uit naam van zijn vrouw, voor 1/12, Jan Rommerts voor 1/6, Pyter Jans, kuiper, voor 3/8 en gebruiker voor het geheel. Foppe Jans is gebruiker van de helft van Jan Rommerts c.s. (Stemkohier Oosterwolde 1698).
