    Juliana der Nederlanden werd geboren op PaleisNoordeinde.Na een aantal miskramen van Wilhelmina bestondde vrees dater geen troonopvolger zou zijn. In dat gevalzou deNederlandse troon na het overlijden van Wilhelminaovergaannaar de nakomelingen van de zuster van Wilhelmina'svaderWillem III, prinses Sophie. De meest genoemde namenwarenWillem Ernst van Saksen-Weimar-Eisenach (een zoon vaneenneef van Wilhelmina), en Marie vanSaksen-Weimar-Eisenach(een nicht van Wilhelmina). Degeboorte van Juliana was danook een grote opluchting voorvelen en er werd groot feestgevierd.

    Haar moeder trachtte Juliana een iets minderafgeschermdeopvoeding te geven dan zij zelf had gehad. Zijdoorliep delagere en middelbare school op het paleis, ineen klasjevan enkele dochters uit zorgvuldig uitgezochtefamilies.Deze meisjes waren de freules Miek de Jonge, EliseBentincken Elisabeth van Hardenbroek. Na het beëindigen vanhaarmiddelbare school verhuisde Juliana naar Katwijk omeenverkorte studie te volgen aan de RijksuniversiteitLeiden,die geheel was toegespitst op de taak die haarwachtte. Destudie werd afgesloten met een eredoctoraat.KoninginWilhelmina vond het van groot belang dat Juliana ophaar18e jaar voldoende zou zijn toegerust om hetkoningschap zonodig te kunnen overnemen.

    Op 30 maart kreeg zij een staatsbegrafenis (op eigenverzoekmet witte accenten) en werd zij plechtig bijgezetin dekoninklijke grafkelder van de Nieuwe Kerk te Delft.Deuitvaartliturgie werd geleid door ds. W. Hudig-SemeijnsdeVries van Doesburgh, remonstrants predikante. Sedertdebijzetting wordt zij officieel weer betiteld als'KoninginJuliana'.
