Beter verging het eenaantalAmsterdamse kooplieden die geld staken ineentabaksaanplant project bij Amersfoort, dit bleekzosuccesvol te zijn dat deze teelt vaste voet oponzevaderlandse bodem kreeg .Vanuit Amersfoort breiddedetabaksverbouw zich uit over de noord-Veluwe, deUtrechtseheuvelrug en de regio's Rhenen en Wageningen. Inde loopvan de 18e eeuw krijgt de tabaksteelt ook in deBetuwe enhet Land van Maas en Waal "vaste wortel" in degrond.
