GLINS (jonker Douwe van), geb. op Glinsstate te Dronrijp, datum onbekend, terecht gesteld te Groningen 20 Mei 1573, zoon van Laas van Glins en Wilsk Uninga van Hoytema; hij huwde met Tieth of Tjets van Galama (geb. 4 Juli 1527, overl. 1581, dochter van Galo van Galama en Toeck Aefgesdr. thoe Hoxwier). Hij was een zwager van den watergeus Jelle Eelsma.
Douwe van Glins woonde op state Glins of 't Blaauw Huys. In 1566 teekende hij het Compromis; in 1567 moest hij voor Alva vluchten en is in Juni 1567 in Emden, waar hij zich met zijn huisgezin vestigt. 9 Jan. 1568 wordt hij in Friesland gedagvaard, en weldra door het Hof verbannen; 30 Jan. verdedigde hij zich tegen zijn oproeping van Emden uit, waar hij nog woonde; 8 Sept. 1568 wordt zijn naam in Leeuwarden aangeslagen. In 1569 behoorde Glins tot de eersten, die van den Prins van Oranje een kaperbrief kregen, en voegde zich bij de Watergeuzen. In Oct. 1569 neemt hij in de Borkumer Balg een schip. Op 13 April 1570 nam hij op het Uithuizer Wad twee schepen; 25 Apr. van dat jaar ontnamen de Oostfriezen hem drie schepen; hij werd gevangen naar Berum gevoerd, maar later weer vrij gelaten. 1 Apr. 1572 was hij bij de inneming van den Briel. Hij werd 15 Mei 1573 bij Rottum gevangen genomen, naar Groningen gevoerd en daar 20 Mei onthoofd.
