Na zijn huwelijk wonen hij en zijn vrouw korte tijd te Teroele.
Daarna is hij boer te Heeg.

Douwe maakte in 1746 een reis naar Munsterland in Duitsland om daar vee te kopen, omdat de veestapel in Friesland door de veepest sterk was uitgedund.
