    In 1913 is Teunis samen met een broer via Antwerpen naar Amerika gereisd met het ss. Kroonland (aankomst 13 maart 1913). Mijn moeder (Adriana) was toen 1 1/2 jaar oud. Hij heeft zijn zoon en dochter nooit meer gezien. De scheiding is uitgesproken op 8 augustus 1913 te Hillegersberg. Mijn moeder en haar broer hebben beide ter gelegenheid van hun voorgenomen huwelijk contact gezocht met hun vader in Amerika. Uit die pogingen bleek dat hij reeds was overleden. Van de familie van der Aa mocht mijn moeder niets van haar moeder vernemen. Pas na het overlijden van Johanna van Hilten heeft mijn moeder contact willen leggen met de enige nog levende broer van Teunis: oom Arie. Deze was als een vader voor mijn moeder en heeft haar het beheer van het familiegraf van de van der Aa's graftuin 72 op de Ned. Herv. begraafplaats te Charllois (Rotterdam) nagelaten. Het ligt op korte afstand van het familiegraf (graftuin 41) van de Van Hiltens waar mijn oma is begraven.
