Branca Tas was een dochter van Salomon Levie Tas en Betje Hijman Content. Ze trouwde met Jacob Levie de Wilde (tevens bekend als Jacques) in 1899 in Amsterdam. Het echtpaar kreeg zes kinderen: Rachel, Salomon, Cerline, Liesje (overleden in 1938), Debora, die met haar gezin in België woonde en één kind dat de oorlog heeft overleefd. Jacob Levie de Wilde overleed op 5 april 1909 aan een hartkwaal. Branca Tas werd jarenlang financieel gesteund door een broer van haar overleden man, Abraham de Wilde. Branca Tas was een zeer kordate vrouw. Zij voorzag zelf in haar levensonderhoud door middel van diamantbewerking. Zij werkte thuis en had een daar een aantal werkneemsters. Om geld uit te sparen wandelde Branca Tas van de Bijenkorf naar de Watergraafsmeer. Zij vond het zonde om geld voor de tram uit te geven.
