Over haar ouders vertelde Agnes Antonis in september 2016: "Voor haar huwelijk is mijn moeder kantwerkster geweest, ik meen bij een rijke vrouw op het Begijnhof. Daar zal ze wel iets mee verdiend hebben. Na hun huwelijk begonnen mijn vader en zij een schoenenwinkel in de Korte Begijnenstraat. Dat liep niet. Eigenlijk moesten ze steeds investeren, maar dat geld hadden ze niet. Daar moesten ze dus mee ophouden. Toen zijn ze een café begonnen in Oosthoven. Tegelijk bleef hij schoenmaker bij zijn vader in de Victoriestraat. Na de verhuizing van Oosthoven naar de Victoriestraat hadden ze daar een café. Achter zijn huis had grootvader zijn werkplaats. Mensen kwamen daar om hun schoenen op te laten lappen. Mijn vader had een opleiding gevolgd om schoenen te maken voor ongelukkige voeten. Hij was dus orthopedisch schoenmaker. En 's avonds was hij dan in het café. Overdag kwam daar toch niemand."

In juni 1920 zat hij in ieder geval in militaire dienst.Dan stuurt hij beschreven foto's naar zijn geliefde en naar thuis. Van de "Algemeene Spaar- en Lijfrentkas", "Rentekas voor Arbeidsongevallen" ontving Louis met ingang van 11 april 1931 een uitkering van jaarlijks 80 Belgische Franc. Blijkbaar heeft hij in genoemd jaar een ongeval gehad, waardoor hij niet of verminderd kon werken. (zijn dochter Agnes heeft hier nooit over gesproken).
