Josephus Petrus Cornelis wordt op 02-03-1931 vrijgesteld van de Militie wegens broederdienst.
In het najaar van 1948 werkt Josephus Petrus Cornelis bij de Meelfabriek "Holland" op de Zoutkeetsgracht in Amsterdam. Hij krijgt daar een ernstig ongeval. Het ongeval wordt verwoord in de krant:
Vijftien meter diep gevallen
Maandagmiddag is een 36-jarige ar-
beider J.D. uit de Uiterwaardenstraat,
die werkzaam is bij de Meelfabriek
''Holland'' in een 15 m. diepe tarwe-
kaar gevallen. Hij is in zeer ernstige
toestand naar het Wilhelminagasthuis
overgebracht. Hij was belast met het
schoonmaken van de kaar. Men kan dit
instrument het best vergelijken met
een enorme ton. Bij het schoonmaken
maakte hij gebruik van een touwladder
die was vastgemaakt aan een houten
paal. Toen die paal brak, viel D. dus
vijftien meter naar beneden.
Ook zijn vader was op dat moment ernstig ziek en was ook opgenomen in het ziekenhuis. Zijn vader heeft het ziekbed niet meer overleefd en stierf op 19 april 1949. Josephus Petrus Cornelis herstelde. Het enige 'gebrek' dat hij overhield aan de val was het ontbreken van de reuk.
Uit Politierapporten 1940-1945: De eerste vermelding van Josephus Petrus Cornelis is in een politierapport van vóór 1942. In dienst van de Gemeentelijke Lucht Beschermingsdienst zag hij om 11.20 uur n.m. op de Erasmusgracht licht branden in het trapportaal. Hij heeft het licht uitgedaan en een melding gemaakt op het politiebureau.(zie de website van het Verzetsmuseum over lucht Beschermingsdienst).
Op 22-09-1943 doet hij als melkventer aangifte van diefstal van 18 melkbonnen door een vrouw in de Boterdiepstraat. Op 27-06-1944 wordt hij als arrestant ingeschreven in het arrestantenregister. Waarvoor hij is aangehouden en wanneer hij is heengezonden is niet bekend. Een mutatie over de aanhouding en heenzending ontbreken.
In de ochtend van 13 januari 1945 wordt hij in zijn woning in de Uiterwaardenstraat aangehouden op verdenking van het in bezit hebben van drie gestolen fietsen. Hij blijft tot en met 15 januari 1945 bij de politie ingesloten. Wanneer hij wordt heengezonden is niet bekend. Een mutatie over de heenzending ontbreekt.
Op 02-01-1941 wordt aan hem een paspoort uitgereikt, geldig tot 02-01-1943.
