Het eerste kind, Elisabeth Catharina Petronella werd 2 dagen na het huwelijk geboren. Het huwelijk was op 18 februari 1885 en Elisabeth werd geboren op 20 februari 1885.
Het jaar 1900 was voor het gezin een bijzonder jaar. Zoon Dirk Frederik, oud 16 maanden overleed op 7 augustus 1900, twee maanden nadat zijn broertje Petrus Johannes geboren was (juni 1900). Dit broertje was ook geen lang leven beschoren. Vier maanden na het overlijden van zijn broertje Dirk Frederik is ook Petrus Johannes, oud 6 maanden, op 29 december 1900 overleden.
Ook Theodorus, het laatste en jongste kind van het gezin is slechts 15 dagen oud geworden.
