In 1860 werd Derk Johan Gerbrands benoemd tot organist van de Groote- of Eusebiuskerk in Arnhem.
In 1863 begeleidde hij een bijzondere dankdienst ter gelegenheid van 50 jaar onafhankelijkheid en in 1913 en zelfde dienst t.g.v. 100 jaar onafhankelijkheid.
In 1910 vierde hij onder grote belangstelling en waardering zijn gouden ambtsjubileum.
