    FRATER GERVAAS
    Walterus Petrus Johannes Fouchier. Hij werd geboren op 4 apri11918. Hij trad in bij de Congregatie van de Fraters van Tilburg op 8 september 1934. Zijn eeuwige professie legde hij af op 15 augustus 1939. Hij overleed op 20 januari 1992 in het Sint Elisabeth Ziekenhuis te Tilburg. Na de plechtige Eucharistieviering in de parochiekerk van Reusel werd hij begraven op het kerkhof van de fraters bij "Huize Steenwijk" te Vught op donderdag 23 januari 1992.
    Frater Gervaas, van wie wij vandaag voorlopig afscheid moeten nemen, was een man, die niet zo eenvoudig valt te karakteriseren. In het algemeen was hij stil, gesloten van aard. Zeker was hij niet iemand die gemakkelijk de zonzij van het leven zag. Overigens heeft hij op z'n tijd op zijn manier genoten van het leven. Zo was hij lange jaren -totdat hij zich aan de vermoeidheid gewonnen moest geven -een verwoed wandelaar die elke dag een paar uur doorbracht in de vrije natuur. Hij kende dan ook stilaan alle planten en bloemen en alle vogeltjes die de omgeving van Reusel rijk is. Zijn liefde voor de natuur ging zelfs zóver dat hij op zijn kamer een muis tot vriend had, die elke dag op gezette tijden wat kwam eten door het openstaande raam. En de meesjes rond zijn raam waren niet te tellen.
    Op een eigen manier hield hij van de congregatie waarin hij zich geroepen wist tot een leven in dienst van de evenmens, als onderwijzer en Hoofd der school. Hij kan terugzien op een zeer werkzaam en religieus leven, beantwoordend aan de bedoelingen van onze Stichter, Mgr. Zwijsen.
    Elk leven -en bijzonder toch dat van frater Gervaas -heeft zijn eigen mysteries, verborgen voor de mensen en alleen bekend bij God, die beter dan wie ook de waarachtige waarde van ieders leven en daden kent en waardeert. Wij hebben het volste vertrouwen, dat Onze Lieve Heer hem zijn gerechte loon zal doen genieten.
    Hij ruste in vrede.
    Voor de getoonde belangstelling en voor uw gebed zeggen wij U hartelijk dank.
